Botox® and Dermal Fillers

If you are worried about those incipient signs of aging but don’t want to undergo a surgical procedure, you may be interested in Botox® or dermal fillers. These treatments can turn back the hands of time by softening and eliminating those dreaded facial wrinkles and expression lines.

These treatments are indicated for cosmetic reasons, not medical. Both Botox® (botulinum toxin) and dermal fillers are trendy alternatives for those patients with aesthetic concerns: they can dramatically improve your appearance in only one session, with nearly no downtime. If you are interested in this type of treatment but still have some reservations, schedule a consultation with us. Our team has vast experience in cosmetic treatments, and will be happy to answer all your questions.

Botox®

Botox® injections contain a toxin (botulinum toxin) that, when injected directly into muscles, blocks the transmission of the chemical signals that cause muscle contraction. As a result, muscles are relaxed and free of tension until the toxin starts wearing off, approximately 3 to 6 months after the application. The most common use of Botox® injections is for cosmetic purposes, as it temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause expression lines and wrinkles. However, it is also used to treat certain conditions like migraines and chronic pain resulting from TMJ disorders.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are a cosmetic treatment for static wrinkles. Patients get this treatment to soften facial contours and improve signs of aging like frows, facial lines and wrinkles in cheeks, lips, and mouth. Dermal filler treatments can last up to 18 months.

Dermal Fillers utilize the body’s chemical reactions to replenish and rehydrate the skin. The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, binds to water molecules to create volume beneath the surface of sagging skin. Each hyaluronic acid molecule can absorb approximately 1,000 times its weight in water, which is enough to fill deep wrinkles. The thick gel prevents the hyaluronic acid from exiting the body immediately. After approximately 12-18 months, a second treatment will be needed.

As an added bonus, hyaluronic acid binds well to elastin and collagen. The elastin connection enhances the health of the skin by moving more nutrients into skin’s surface. Collagen is the substance that supports facial skin. The hyaluronic acid prevents collagen from breaking down and also increases collagen production.
